Five Acres is unique. Founded as an orphanage over 120 years ago, the facility is the oldest non-sectarian child abuse and neglect prevention, treatment and education center in Los Angeles. Five Acres director Robert Ketch says twice as many children admitted to the residential treatment center have been physically or sexually abused than other similar agencies. Despite those challenges, Bob says Five Acres works closely with the 1200 families that require Five Acres' services.

"We're focused on preserving families by caring for, treating and educating emotionally disturbed, abused and neglected children and their families in both our residential and outreach programs."

And Five Acres is successful. Significant results are obtained. Children's reading abilities improve. And 50% more children and their families complete their treatment plans successfully. "We are emotionally supportive of the children and try to increase their self esteem. We think we're helping our children and their families get back together and solve their issues."
