Roger Louer

roger louer

history
1951

Winemaker. Businessman. Farmer.

There's a wine tasting room just like the movie "Sideways." Ribbons recognizing Calistoga Cellars' wines' successes are prominent in the tasting room. Go a little deeper in the Napa Valley facility and you'll see the vast casks aging the wine before it is sent off to a distributor to bottle and sell. There's even a guesthouse that was used in the making of the Hugh Grant movie "9 Months." All of this is nice but Roger Louer would much rather talk about the acreage surrounding the buildings than the wine itself. "Every morning I can't wait to get out into the vineyard," the managing partner of Calistoga Cellars says. "It's what I think I was born to do." But with the help of 45 other partners, he created Calistoga Cellars, which now sells award-winning wines in 26 states, including Iowa.
