professor No electricity. No running water. No computers. That's life in the Savanna. Jill Pruetz's home away from home is a mud-and-thatch hut in a small village in Senegal. If you want to study the behavior of non-human primates, such as savanna chimpanzees, in the wild you have to travel to far off locations. Jill describes it as "interesting, rather dangerous work." She's been stung by African killer bees; she contracts malaria a couple of times year; there's always the fear of dehydration in the rain-starved savanna. But for Jill her groundbreaking research project is worth it. "I can walk among them (the chimpanzees) now, just like a real primatologist." |
