From assistant professor to dean.

It's doubtful Michael Whiteford thought he would still be working at Iowa State University. But 35 years later, Mike is still on campus, having moved from an assistant professor of anthropology, to chairing that department for over 15 years before moving into the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences' dean's office in 2001. In April 2004, he was named dean of the College.

"Iowa State is my home and it's a very good institution. I'm proud to be part of working to keep Iowa State the excellent university that it is. We have the opportunity to make it even better in the future."

Mike says he finds life in the dean's office energizing, inspiring and stimulating all at the same time. "I really believe that the heart of a good college education is the liberal arts component. We in LAS have a very special obligation to the University to be successful and to insure the success of the whole institution."
