Julie Snyder-YulyCatt Center for Women and PoliticsJulie Snyder-Yuly earned her B.S. in psychology from the University of Iowa and a M.S. in Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies focusing on communication Studies, industrial technology (training and development) and sociology from Iowa State University. Her thesis on harassment prevention training received an Iowa State University Research Excellence Award. Snyder-Yuly is responsible for the Center's public relations, including the Center's newsletter Voices, the website, and event planning. She also handles serves as the coordinator for the Archive of Women's Political Communication, which is currently under development. In addition, she teaches LAS 222 in the fall, co-teaches WS 391 with Chris Fowler every other spring and is working to develop an interdisciplinary course on Leadership and Career Exploration for Women. She also works with the Women's Studies majors and minors, serving as the public relations coordinator, and assisting with events planning. She is a former Women's Studies teaching assistant for WS201 and currently teaches "Leadership styles and strategies in a Diverse Society." Every other spring, she teaches the "Learning in Action" course for Women's Studies majors and minors. Her research interests include body image, women in the media, sexual harrassment/assualt issues, and leadership. She recently co-authored "Any Four Black Men Will Do: Rape, Race, and the Ultimate Scapegoat" which received a top 4 paper award at Western States Communication Association and is being revised to submit for publication. In 1998, she joined the staff of the Carrie Chapman Catt Center. Previously, she was the training coordinator at Alliance Glass Network in Cedar Rapids, where she was in charge of training new employees and the on-going training of current employees. She has recently won several awards for her photography and stained glass. |
