Catt Center for Women and Politics

Legacy of Heroines Scholarship Program

The Legacy of Heroines program, launched in 1996, provides scholarships to outstanding young women who seek involvement in and knowledge about the political process and public service. Scholarship awards are based on academic merit, leadership and specific criteria established by scholarship donors. As part of the criteria set by donors, Legacy of Heroines scholarship recipients are required to participate in mentoring and leadership development programs through the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics and to register for academic credit through the Center. Enrollment in the Joni and John Axel Leadership Development Series of seminars is guaranteed for Legacy of Heroines Scholars. In addition, Legacy of Heroines scholars are encouraged to participate in the Catt Associates student organization and to attend special events and opportunities through the Center.

For more information on participating in the Legacy of Heroines Scholars program as a mentor/donor or student scholar contact the Catt Center at 515-294-3181 or by e-mail cattcntr@iastate.edu.

Catt Associates

The Catt Associates student organization aims to develop a cohesive group that will help raise civic awareness and encourage women's leadership. Catt Associates contribute to the interdisciplinary atmosphere of the Center because they come not only from the fields of political science and public administration, but also from other academic disciplines - including business, journalism, sociology, communication, women's studies, history, and science and technology. Since 1993, the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics has provided leadership development and educational opportunities to this core group of Iowa State University students.
