Welcome to the University Partnership Project between the Kharkiv Center for Gender Studies (KCGS) at Karazin Kharkiv National University in Ukraine and the Women’s Studies Program (WSP) at Iowa State University in the United States.

Our project aims to promote democracy through curricular transformation including the development of critical thinking skills and active, student-centered teaching and learning methods.

Teaching about women and gender especially in the humanities, social, political and economic sciences, education, communication and related fields, can increase the awareness of gender inequality and begin to change discriminatory practices. Instituting more active and participatory classroom pedagogies has important implications for the development of a more inclusive and vibrant democracy. The dissemination of these ideas beyond academia through community outreach potentially has far-reaching impact.

Project participants from KCGS and WSP have developed a series of curricular modules designed to infuse existing courses with gender studies U.S./Ukraine comparative content and interactive teaching methods. These modules also can be used to develop new courses, utilized in community service workshops, and changed to a distance learning format. They are available for downloading from this web site.

We hope that you find these materials interesting and useful.
