Women's Studies Graduate Assistants

Applications Due March 7

The Women's Studies Program invites applications for Graduate Teaching Assistantships for 2008-09.  We will need to hire two half-time positions for the full year.

A half-time appointment involves:

  • Attending all lectures of WS 201 and perhaps presenting one lecture during the semester;
  • Teaching two recitation sections of 201;
  • Participating in weekly pedagogy sessions with the professor of the course to coordinate and plan discussions in the recitation sections;
  • Holding office hours to meet with students in the recitation sections.
Teaching a recitation section involves leading the class discussions and doing the grading for the students in those sections. Lectures are held on Mondays, recitation sections on both Wednesdays and Fridays (so TAs have 5 class-hours / week plus preparation and grading time; half-time GA positions assume working 20-hours/week).

Qualifications: The Graduate College requires all TAs to have at least a 3.0 gpa, and to be a currently enrolled graduate student.  A Women's Studies background is highly desirable (including courses at the undergraduate or graduate level); preference will be given to students who have declared a WS graduate minor. Prior teaching experience is a plus, but not required.

To apply, please send a letter, a current CV / resume, and the names (with addresses and phone numbers) of three references to:
