- The Bachelors of Liberal Studies is the only undergraduate program
on campus in continuing education
- Learning communities across campus rely on LAS for linked courses
- LAS participates in Upward Bound, which provides instruction in math,
laboratory science, composition, literature, and foreign language for
first generation and low income students
- LAS faculty participate in OPPTAG, a pre-collegiate program for talented

- Craig Anderson and Doug Gentile are national experts on the effects
of violent video games
- Alicia Carriquiry has helped defense attorneys with her work determining
that law enforcement agencies cannot match bullets used in crimes to
unspent bullets in possession of suspects
- Carl Chang was President of IEEE Computer Society, overseeing 120
staff members and over 100,000 members world-wide
- Charlie Drewes, recently deceased, worked with secondary biology
teachers across the nation
- Doug Epperson works with law enforcement officials around the country
to help improve screening techniques for sexual offenders
- George Kraus has discovered an ingredient to add to anhydrous ammonia
to make it ineffective for meth production
- Jake Petrich invented a machine to detect E-coli in food stuffs without
using bioassays
- Steve Rodermel is developing corn with higher vitamin A content to
help prevent deaths and blindness from vitamin A deficiency
- Gary Wells is internationally known for his groundbreaking research
on eyewitness identification and is also President of the American Psychology
Law Society
- Statistics faculty work in the Center for Survey Statistics and methodology,
providing survey research services for multiple clients, including the
USDA (in the form of statistical support for the National Resources
Inventory)
