Responsiveness
| LAS prides itself on listening to its constituents. From informal
feedback college advisors collect from advisees to formal departmental
reviews and alumni surveys, the College receives a wealth of feedback.
The College supports various committees and organizations to sustain its
feedback. These include the LAS Student Council, the Faculty Representative
Assembly, the LAS Chairs Cabinet, and the Dean's Advisory Council. LAS
Faculty serve on eight standing committees, including Academic Standards
and Admissions, Curriculum, Diversity, and Faculty Development.
In ongoing efforts, the College also
- Works to develop more articulation agreements with community colleges
- Works to develop more internships and service learning projects to
connect with communities.
- Creates an environment supportive of the mobility of transfer students
through orientation, advising, and academic services, including learning
communities for transfer students
- Collaborates in intercollegiate initiatives such as
- Institute for Combinatorial Discovery
- Institute for Science and Society
- CEAH (Center for the Arts and Humanities)
- RISE (Research Institute for Studies in Education)
- ISBR (Institute for Social and Behavioral Research)
- Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics
Supports campus diversity efforts through such efforts as establishing
a new Center for American Intercultural Studies to increase the visibility
of Latino, African-American, and Native American Studies; offering over
90% [Z ?] of the courses students use to satisfy their diversity requirement;
supporting the college Diversity Committee with a research assistant and
summer workshop money; being involved with campus programs such as IWISE
(International Women in Science and Engineering) and the Carver Academy.
