Academic Reinstatement

When applying for reinstatement, do I have to come back into the same major I had when I was last at Iowa State?
If a dismissed student hopes to pursue a major other than the one they were in at the time of dismissal, that student should apply for reinstatement to the college in which the new major resides. In other words, for academic reinstatement it is not imperative that a student be reinstated to the college from which they were dismissed. Although there are certain universal requirements from college to college at Iowa State regarding reinstatement, the Academic Standards and Admissions Committee of each college also establishes additional specific rules surrounding the reentry and continuation of students pursuing majors in its college. The universal requirements are addressed in the 2007-2009 Iowa State University Catalog on page 41.

What happens if a student requests to withdraw during the term of reinstatement?
Students who ask to withdraw from school during the term in which they are reinstated may do so without penalty as long as the withdrawal is done by the drop deadline established by the university. In addition to processing the withdrawal through the academic adviser, the student must notify the Secretary of the LAS Academic Standards Committee that they have withdrawn for the term in which they were reinstated. They need to inform the Committee in writing whether or not they intend to return to the college and major in which they were reinstated and the academic term in which they plan to come back.  If the return date is within one academic year of their having been reinstated, then the Committee will issue a new reinstatement agreement for their signature and will request that the student submit a revised graduation plan. The academic term in which the student comes back will then be considered the term of reinstatement. If more than one academic year will have gone by before the student reenters the university, then the student may be asked to submit a new reinstatement petition.
