Religious Games and Toys in the Classroom

4:10-5 p.m., Wednesday
Spring 2008 Semester
LAS 103X, Section 4
Reference #8794020

As artifacts of religious folklife, games and toys serve a pedagogical function that engages the senses and provides a kinesthetic dimension to religious learning.

This seminar gives students an exciting opportunity to engage in hands-on research from a variety of interdisciplinary perspectives. The group will use methodologies drawn from ritual studies, folklore, performance studies, and anthropology to explore the multiple dimensions of religious games and toys.

Students who participate in this seminar will learn about religions and how they are represented through the medium of "game." They will also critically assess how games and toys are filtered through the lens of popular culture and the concept of "fun," and how these artifacts can be used in the religious studies classroom.
