BPMI 326. Introduction to Illustration
Application of painting, drawing, and image making techniques to communication. Development of technical facilities in a variety of illustration media. Review of the past and current state of illustration and the role of typography and its integration with illustration. Introduction of camera ready and print production techniques.
BPMI 327. Illustration as Communication and Interpretive Expression
Studio problems in illustration covering editorial, historical and scientific expression. Problem solving methodologies.
BPMI 336. Biological Illustration Principles and Techniques
Studio basics and fundamentals of traditional biological rendering techniques. Emphasis on tools and materials.
BPMI 337. Application of Biological Illustration Techniques
Rendering Techniques applied to different types of biological subject matter including computer applications. Term project required.
BPMI 395X. Field Illustration
Semester-long seminar followed by a week-long field trip to national forest to make field sketches culminating in a final natural history illustration.
BPMI 490. Independent Study
Working one-on-one with an instructor to develop fluency and competence in specific scientific subject areas.
BPMI 494. Computer Illustration
Development of image making and software user skills concentrating on Illustrator and Photoshop programs. Additional emphasis on layout and presentation design combining photographic, typographic, and illustrative elements.
BPMI 497. Illustration Internship
Lakeside Lab Courses are taught by BPMI faculty during summer at Iowa State's biological science field station at Lake Okiboji in NW Iowa
