Overview

Iowa State University operates under a decentralized career services model, meaning each college maintains a separate career services office specializing in the unique needs and challenges to students and industries related to majors of that college.

The Liberal Arts & Sciences (LAS) Career Services office was established in 2004 when the College of Business moved into their new facilities in the Gerdin Building. Until that time, students from both colleges were served by the Business/LAS Career Services office.

Career Services Council

The Career Services Council reviews and sets policies as they relate to legal, ethical, and professional practice related to the recruitment, hiring, and selection of students and alumni in experiential learning and full-time employment. The Council facilitates communication and collaboration between career service offices and university constituents. The goal of the Career Services Council is to provide leadership to the university regarding career-related programs and issues.

Employer Partners Council

The Employer Partners Council provides support to the Liberal Arts & Sciences Career Services office in an effort to enhance the services offered to students and employers. The council meets twice per year to review and discuss current issues in recruiting and career services.

Policies

In accordance with the National Association of Colleges and Employers Guide to Ethical and Legal Standards in Student Hiring, LAS Career Services is committed to maintaining a fair and equitable recruiting process for students and employers. These policies have been developed with that end in mind.
