LAS International On-Line is the bi-monthly on-line publication of the International Programs of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. LAS International is part of LAS' on-going efforts to coordinate all aspects of international activities within the College including international studies, study abroad, exchange agreements, research and outreach.

International Awards
NOMINATIONS SOUGHT - The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is seeking nominations for the second annual "LAS Student International Excellence Award." Nominations can be submitted to Dave Gieseke at dgieseke@iastate.edu or 213 Catt Hall by Monday, Feb. 19.

Study Abroad
STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIPS - LAS students who are planning to study abroad in this summer or during the 2007 fall semester can apply for a LAS study abroad scholarship. The deadline for summer programs is March 1 and the fall program deadline is April 15.

AL JAZEERA PANEL - Steffen Schmidt, University Professor of political science, was a featured panelist during a panel discussion immediately following President Bush's State of the Union address on the Al Jazeera English channel. The panel discussion was broadcast live from the Maintenance Shop in the Memorial Union. The local panelists including Schmidt offered diverse perspectives on the Iraq war that ranged from skepticism of Bush's war policies to a belief that Bush deserves another chance to make it right.

News

LONDON CALLING - A new program has been established for internship opportunities in London. The 10-week program for the 2007 summer session includes a two-week orientation in Washington, D.C., and eight weeks in London.

Students can earn academic credit, participate in cultural activities, obtain substantive pre-arranged internships tailored to their individual career interests and have a furnished apartment.

The application deadline is Feb. 2 and students should contact LAS Career Services in 351 Catt Hall, 294-4841 or lascs@iastate.edu.

The program is coordinated by The Washington Center and more information is available on-line at www.twc.edu/students/london.shtml.
