LAS International On-Line is the bi-monthly on-line publication
of the International Programs of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. LAS
International is part of LAS' on-going efforts to coordinate all aspects of
international activities within the College including international studies,
study abroad, exchange agreements, research and outreach.
From the Director
I am representing the Liberal Arts and Sciences College on the Provost's Council
on International Programs (CIP). let me summarize some of the things on which
we are working.
First, I'd like you to be aware of the International Grants Program from CIP.
We are finalizing the RFP but start thinking about potentially writing a proposal.
This would be relevant if you have a project such as developing a new course
or curriculum, are developing a joint research program with international collaborators,
looking at major grant writing for external funding in the international area,
or any other activity that would have a major impact on the international perspectives
and activities of the university. The grants will probably be funded up to a
maximum of $5,000 again.
Second, CIP is very anxious to encourage faulty to develop challenging and interesting
international study programs. If you have connections abroad, travel to certain
venues, or have a brilliant idea PLEASE think about developing a study abroad
program for your students, in your discipline, with special focus on things
that only YOU and your program could possibly think of as relevant and exciting.
Third, if you are thinking of exploring a Memorandum of Understanding or a Memorandum
of Agreement with a university or other entity you now must obtain the approval
of the Provost's office. They are ultimately the only one at the University
who can officially approve such memoranda with all the legal benefits and liabilities
that are associated with these arrangements. Appropriate guidelines with forms
can be obtained from the Provost's office.
If YOU have any international activity or idea of earth shaking interest that
the university should know about please consider sending it (them) to me and
I can brief CIP.
