Teaching AwardsLiberal Arts & SciencesNomination Form (PDF) LAS Award for Outstanding TeachingPurpose: To recognize faculty members for outstanding teaching performance over an extended period of time in undergraduate education. Eligibility: Tenured faculty status with a minimum of 5 years of service at ISU and 10 years of classroom experience in higher education. Criteria: Documented evidence, including student and peer evaluations, of outstanding classroom teaching performance, supplemented by evidence of instructional contributions outside the classroom. Number of awards: 1-3 LAS Award for Early Achievement in TeachingPurpose: To recognize a tenured or tenure-track faculty member who have demonstrated outstanding teaching performance unusually early in their professional careers. Eligibility: Tenured or tenure-track faculty who received their Ph.D. (or other appropriate terminal degree) since January 2004, and have had minimum of two academic years of appointment as an ISU faculty member. Criteria: Evidence of outstanding performance as a teacher, as documented by students and peers. Number of awards: 1-3 LAS Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Introductory TeachingPurpose: To recognize outstanding performance in teaching undergraduate introductory classes (defined as entry-level courses in the discipline). Tenured/Tenure-Track Eligibility: Tenured or tenure-track faculty with a minimum of 5 years of service at ISU, who regularly teach an entry-level course. Lecturer/Adjunct Professor Eligibility: Lecturer/adjunct professor with a minimum of 2 years of service at ISU, who regularly teach an entry-level course. Criteria: Documented evidence of the ability to offer high-quality instruction in introductory courses, the ability to excite interest and involve students without compromising scholarship, and the ability to enhance student performance in future courses in the discipline. Number of awards: 1 for tenured/tenure-track faculty; 1 for lecture/adjunct professor. NOTE: The Cassling Family Faculty Award will be presented to two individuals who have been nominated for LAS teaching awards. One recipient will come from the Outstanding Teaching Award, the second from the Early Achievement in Teaching Award. NOTE: The Jerry Shakeshaft Master Teacher in Humanities and Social Sciences will be presented to one individual who has been nominated for LAS teaching awards. LAS Award for Outstanding Teaching by a LecturerPurpose: To recognize lecturers or senior lecturers for outstanding teaching performnce over an extended period of time in undergraduate education. Eligibility: Lecturer or senior lecturer status with a minimum of 5 years of service at ISU as a lecturer or senior lecturer. Criteria: Documented evidence, including student and peer evaluations, of outstanding classroom teaching performance, supplemented by evidence of instructional contributions outside the classroom. Number of awards: 1-2 LAS Award for Excellence in Graduate TeachingPurpose: To recognize the efforts of major professors who not only serve as effective mentors and who enrich the student-professor relationship by support and attention to detail which enables students to finish their work in a timely and scholarly manner, but also excel in graduate classroom instruction. Major professors considered for this award are expected to be supportive of their students beyond graduation. Eligibility: Nominations are restricted to members of the LAS Graduate Faculty who have chaired at least six graduate student committees. Criteria: Evidence of outstanding performance as a graduate teacher, as documented by (current and past) students and peers. Number of awards: 1 |
