Grant LAS Due Date Description
Internal competition: NSF Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S-STEM) May 15, 2012 For this solicitation, an institution may submit one proposal from each constituent college or school that awards eligible degrees, so each college will perform an internal evaluation of pre-proposals. LAS PI's should submit pre-proposals to the LAS college by the LAS Due Date indicated. The LAS Dean's Office will conduct a review to select one pre-proposal for development into a full proposal for the next NSF deadline (August 14, 2012).
The S-STEM program provides institutions of higher education with funds for student scholarships to encourage and enable academically talented students demonstrating financial need to enter the STEM workforce or STEM graduate school following completion of an associate, baccalaureate, or graduate degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics disciplines: biological sciences (except medicine and other clinical fields); physical sciences, including physics, chemistry, astronomy, and materials science; mathematical sciences; computer and information sciences; geosciences; engineering; technology areas associated with the preceding fields (for example, biotechnology, chemical technology, engineering technology, information technology, etc.). Grantee institutions are responsible for selecting scholarship recipients, reporting demographic information about student scholars, and managing the S-STEM project at the institution.
Instructions to PI: Your pre-proposal should contain the following information:
  • Cover page containing a title, a tentative list of participants (internal and external) and an estimate of total funding request.
  • A summary of the proposal (no more than 2 pages) highlighting the intellectual merits of the proposal, and explaining why your proposal would be competitive.
  • Limited Submissions Grants Internal Deadlines The process for selecting proposals is the same: For each solicitation, PI's should submit the pre-proposals to their colleges. The Dean's Office will conduct their review and forward their pick to the VPR/ED Office. Each college may submit no more than the number of proposals that an institution can submit. The VPR/ED Office will assemble an ad hoc review team and make the final selection.

    Instructions to PI: Your pre-proposal should contain the following information:
    • Summary of the proposal (no more than 2 pages) highlighting the intellectual merits of the proposal
    • Tentative list of participants (internal and external collaborators)
    • Explain why your proposal would be competitive (1 page) -- explain the strengths and uniqueness of your proposal, given the review criteria.
    • Draft budget. If the program requires institutional support/cost-share, then include how the PI-s will contribute toward the cost-share.
