Opportunities Abroad Advising Guides

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) strongly encourages students in all academic disciplines to incorporate an international experience into their four-year program of study. The Opportunities Abroad Advising Guides are a useful tool for LAS majors looking for study abroad opportunities related to their field of study. These advising guides have been developed with the input of advisers to help students fit an international experience into their schedule.

Each Opportunities Abroad Advising Guide provides general information on the benefits of study abroad, as well as guidance on how to choose a program and finance international study. A section on Academic Considerations for Majors addresses scheduling and course selection relevant to your major while also providing major-specific recommendations from your adviser. Finally, each advising guide gives a partial listing of programs of interest to your major, whether they are short term, semester, academic year, or language-intensive programs. If an Opportunities Abroad Advising Guide is not yet listed for your major, it does not limit your eligibility to study abroad. Search the ISUAbroad online database for programs that meet your needs. Meet with your adviser for recommendations on discipline-specific options. Or contact the Study Abroad Center (515-294-6792) to meet with a study abroad adviser who can explore study, work, and volunteer options with you.
