In 1994 Betty Emrich received the


















Partners of the Americas Peck Hill Award. Betty Emrich is a lifelong activist volunteer. The Iowa Partners honor her for her commitment to furthering international relations through her member-ship and long years of leadership in the Iowa Yucatan Partners of the Americas and the Iowa Sister States. Her 15 years of active participation include planning and implementing many exchanges in sports and physical education, hosting international visitors in her home, serving three years as president of the Iowa Yucatan Partnership,

chair of the Sister States Program committee, planning and leading many exchanges in Yucatan including one with Governor of the state. For this, she received the Sister States Volunteer Award, 1994.

Betty was born and had her schooling in southeast Iowa. Her career as an educator started by teaching in rural schools and ended 44 years later in Tipton, Iowa where she had taught Physical Education and Health from 1969-88. In addition to teaching and coaching duties she earned a Master of Arts + 30 hours



from the University of Iowa, served in various negotiation committees, introduced innovative teaching strategies, serrved on numerous committees and held highest positions in the Iowa Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. From that group she received the Distinguished Service Award, the Honor Award, and was selected as the Outstanding Physical Education Secondary Teacher. She has also been honored by the nine state Central District Association for her services by receiving the Honor Award.




Betty is as involved in her home community as beyond. She has been President of Tipton Community Theatre, active in her church, member of the Federated Women's Club, delivers meals on wheels, and was honored as the Cedar County Volunteer of the Year by the Federated Woman's Club.

Betty and her husband, Doug, have two adult children. They enjoy participating in Elder Hostel together, listening to Blue Grass music and and being travelers through Friendship Force. They find time for their multitude of friends.
