Dorothy Moore Kirkpatrick was born and raised in Newton, Iowa. She graduated from Iowa State University in 1941, majoring in Home Economics Education. Following graduation, she taught home economics at Winterset, Iowa.
Dorothy married Robert Kirkpatrick in 1942 and, following his graduation in 1943, moved to Galesburg, Illinois, where Robert practiced veterinary medicine and they raised four children.
In 1964, the family moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where Dorothy taught home economics in the Des Moines Public school system for six years.
Dorothy and Robert moved to Palo Alto, California in 1974, where they lived until Robert's retirement. They now reside in San Diego, California.
Dorothy is an accomplished seamstress, cook, gardener, interior decorator, and watercolor and oil painter. Her family knows that anything she decides to do is done professionally, efficiently, and with a minimum of attention drawn to herself. She is very active in the Presbyterian church, PEO, and Habitat for Humanity.
Dorothy believes the family is the most
important unit of society and gives stability not only to the community, but to the nation and the world. Iowa State University's emphasis and mission to promote and advance the well-being of families and consumers will be felt in all parts of the world. 5/25/95 |
