Georgene Peeler

Paver Area 21

Georgene was born April 6, 1937 in Union, Nebraska to John W. and Grace E. Everett. She attended Sciota Rural School near Union and graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1954. She attended Peru State College where she received a Teacher's Certificate, and taught Rural School for one year before she married Donald L. Peeler of Hamburg, Iowa.

She has three children, Donald D., Mary H. and Ronald L. While raising her three children, she helped her husband run the family farm operation. Georgene has been
involved wth the Fremont County
4-H programs for over 20 years. She has served as a Leader of the Washington P.E.P. and Washington-Madison Livestock 4-H clubs. She served on the Fremont County Fair Board for more than 20 years. Georgene is still active with the Fremont County Youth Committee, and has served this organization for more than 25 years. Georgene was a member of the Valley Farm Club which served the Hamburg Community for many years.

After her children were grown, she was a teachers aide working with Special
Education Students in the Hamburg Community School district. Since 1987 Georgene has worked at the Fremont County Auditors office where she serves as Deputy Commissioner of Elections.

I am proud to honor my mother, Georgene Peeler by placing her name in this Plaza of Heroines. My mother's dedication to her family and her community makes her a worthy recipient of this honor. Without my mother's support love, and great sense of humor, I would not have had the opportunity to experience the great joy of learning the true meaning of "family."
I respect my mother's undying commitment to the high set of values she has instilled in all of the lives she has touched. My mother was not only my mom, but a mom to all kids who still seek her counsel and friendship. She is never as far away as the telephone, unless she is at Stoner’s Drug having a cup of coffee with her friends. 12/19/94
