Born in 1944 in Omaha, Nebraska and raised in rural Aurelia, Iowa.
Graduated from Aurelia High School and received BS and MA degrees from the University of Iowa.
Began a career as a school psychologist in 1968 in the Cedar Rapids Community School system, transferring in 1975 to Grant Wood Area Education Agency in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Daughter, sister, wife & mother. Human rights activist, women's rights advocate,
naturalist, environmentalist and animal rights activist.
In the early 70's implemented the first in-service course in Iowa for teachers on sex role stereotyping and it's detrimental effects. The course was a prototype for others to follow.
Appointed by Govenor Robert Ray in 1975 to the first Iowa Board of Psychology Examiners, serving two consecutive terms.
After the birth of her daughter, took part in successful legal action against the Cedar Rapids Community School District to allow
women to use medical disability for child birth.
Held numerous offices in professional groups, including, former president of the Iowa School Psychologists' Association.
Recipient of the prestigious Jean Fitzgerald award given by Grant Wood Area Education Agency.
Taught Assertiveness Training courses and workshops for over 25 years through Kirkwood Community College and throughout the state.
Former president of local chapters of The Women's Political Caucus, National organization for Women, Global Cedar Rapids and Cedar Rapids Medical Aid Fund. Active on boards of the League of Women Voters, American Association of University Women and United Nations Association.
Served as a consultant to area business and industry to assist in making the workplace more effective for women.
Recognized as Cedar Rapids' Outstanding Woman of the Year in 1991.
Implemented a grant in 1994 at Linn-Mar Schools to improve the self-esteem and general competence of adolescent girls.
