Marjorie Beneke Jensen

George, Iowa

Brick Section C - Row 9

This brick is given in honor of Marjorie Beneke Jensen by her son, Roger Jensen, and daughter, Deborah Jensen Chitambar, and their families.

Marjorie Beneke Jensen was born the daughter of Anton and Theresa Mefferd Beneke on June 15, 1922, in Laurens, Iowa. She is one of five siblings to graduate from Iowa State University. Marjorie was graduated from the department of home economics with a major in technical journalism in 1943. While at ISU, she was a member of Delta Zeta social sorority, Phi Upsilon Omicron,
honorary home economics
fraternity, and Theta Sigma Phi, honorary journalism fraternity. Her technical education in journalism was put to practical use in the ISU Daily Student where at varying times she served as night editor, society editor, and woman's editor. She met the love of her life, Perry Jensen (ISU School of Veterinary Medicine, Class of 1942), and their love was sealed under the bells of the campanile. They were married on October 10, 1943. Marjorie joined Perry in George, Iowa, where they have made their home for the past 51 years, leading productive, enriching lives.

Marjorie's accomplishments are many in the spheres of home, community, and career. She is a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and makes the most of "teachable moments." Marjorie has been a veterinary assistant, writer, high school English and journalism teacher, church leader and choir director, school board member, mentor, refugee resettlement sponsor, community activist, and good friend to all. Her life of service is an inspiration to many; she is a role model for

women as she has found fulfillment and balance in her life and career at a time when women's role in society was in transition. Marjorie's giving spirit was acknowledged by the Sioux Falls Argus Leader when she was the recipient of a "Heart of Gold" Award. We honor our mom with love and thanksgiving for all she has given to us and to others whose lives she has touched. 9/24/94
