Bernice Mullins Christensen

Hamilton County, Iowa

Brick Section D - Row 22

Bernice Mullins Christensen (1899-1991) was part of the leadership of Hamilton County, Iowa until shortly before her death at 92.

For instance, at the age of 85, although wheel chair bound, she was still writing local news for the Webster City and Jewell newspapers. She received cancer’s Harold W. Morgan volunteer award for the state of Iowa via a special phone hook up from the head table at the annual cancer meeting to her hospital room at Mary Greeley Hospital.

Mother attended ISC until the educational
unit was transferred to the State College at Cedar Falls. As a school teacher, church and civic leader and wife, (Chris Christensen, '17, Ag., first county extension agent in Hamilton County) she participated in the needs and goals of her county. In a generation in which women were not easily accepted as leaders, Bernice's organizational skills and selfless interest in others makes her, in deed, my Heroine! 12/30/94
