Mary Inez Harrison, daughter of William and Mary Elizabeth (Burkhart) Rice, was born September 22, 1890. Her talents were shown always in her many skills as a mother and homemaker. She married James R. Harrison on March 13, 1913. Prior to her marriage she attended the Tilford Academy in Vinton, Iowa, and worked as a telephone operator.

James and Inez had six children--Charlotte, Ruth, Adelaide, Clifford, Doris and Robert. The family lived on a Benton County farm and later in Vinton, Iowa.

Inez treasured her children, grandchildren
and great-children. She loved to cook the favorite food for each one and to have them in her home. In the Vinton community Inez is recognized as an excellent cook. She won numerous fair awards for her culinary talents, was featured in the Cedar Rapids Gazette and was always busy in her home and kitchen. She sewed for the Mission Stitchers of the Methodist Church and gave to friends and neighbors in many ways.
