Harriet Irene Daker Mangold

Brick Section A - Row 10

Harriet Irene Daker Mangold, daughter of Verna Wilson and Harry Daker, was born in Delaware County, Iowa. She was schooled in the rural schools, graduated from Manchester High School and the Cedar Rapids Business College and worked as a stenographer before her marriage to Edward J. Mangold in 1936. They farmed near Ryan in Delaware County where they raised their five children: Gloria (Mrs. Charles House), Helen (Mrs. Thomas Bormann), Linda (Mrs. Gerald Showman), Edward H. (married to Donna Palmer), and Beverly (married to Thad Foulk).

Mrs. Mangold is very active in the life of the Golden Prairie Congregational Church, having taught Sunday School and Bible School classes, served in all offices of the Women's Fellowship as well as writing and presenting many wonderful programs and assisting as church pianist. She was also a co-founder and leader for many years of the Golden Girls 4-H Club.

Mrs. Mangold has always been a very gentle, steady, caring influence in the lives of those she touched. She truly has been the "heart of the home" which is the needed

basis for all our lives, for our families, and for our country-- she truly is an American heroine. 7/1/96
