Ardis Hereim Carver

Brick Section A - Row 11

Ardis was born June 28, 1905 south of Roland, Iowa to Andrew and Martha Hereim. Her interest in helping children learn led her to decide to become a primary teacher. After graduating in 1923 from the State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, she taught in Milford and Collins. It was in Collins that she met Harold Thomas Carver and they were married in 1933.

Living in the cities of Fort Dodge, Atlantic, and Carroll, her artistic talents prevailed as her love for entertaining provided for many fond memories. Often, it had a strong
Norwegian influence because both her parents were of Norwegian heritage. Multitudes would testify that Danish pastry created in her kitchen was second to none and very much in demand! Her hobbies of china painting and knitting were other examples of her artistic endeavors crafted to perfection.

Iowa State University has always held a special place in her heart because in 1932 her husband graduated in animal husbandry. Then, in later years she very much enjoyed attending the cultural events at C.Y. Stephens.

Presently residing in Atlantic, her love of sharing poems and special stories continues with grandchildren and great-grand children. We are pleased to honor our mother by placing her name in the "Plaza of Heroines" at the Carrie Chapman Catt Hall at Iowa State University.
