Janet Murray was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on November 23, 1912. She graduated cum laude from Coe College in 1934. Janet taught school in Troy Mills, IA from 1934-35; taught English in Le College du Jeune Fille from 1935-36 in Neufchateaux, France. She also taught at Tenacre, Wellesley, Mass from 1937-38. Janet received an MA in Romance Languages from Columbia University in 1940. She and her husband, John C. Fiske were at IAS then at ISU from 1951-55. She and John were with the U. S. Information Service from 1955-1970 in Bangladesh, Germany, the Congo, Iceland and the U.S. She and Professor Fiske live now in Moscow, ID. They have four grown children and seven grandchildren.11/12/96 |
