Alice Louie Olson Warburton

Pioneer Spirit, Gentle Soul
Alice was a pioneer and champion, especially for women encouraging, promoting and supporting her daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren and the many students she taught.
Her roots were deeply entrenched at Iowa State; several uncles were faculty members and her grandfather once lived at the "Farm House" before homesteading in northwest Iowa. In addition, all three of her daughters attended ISU.
Early on, education was an important goal! She graduated in 1929 from ISU, known as Iowa State College at that time. It was at ISU that she met and married Leslie Warburton, also an ISU graduate.
Alice had a spirit of determination to succeed. She believed you could be and do anything you wanted. She lived her life by the examples she set. If a task was to be done, if she had committed to do it, she accomplish the task. The best example I remember is the Spring of 1953 when the Mississippi River flooded, closing the bridge and highway between her home and school. Mother walked the train trestle across the river, caught a ride with the bread truck driver to school and taught all day, only to repeat the same journey on the way home. This continued for several weeks.-.that's determination and commitment!
This quality revealed itself often in her long life. She truly enjoyed her gift of life and gave it back to her many family members and friends. It's with pride we honor our Mother, mentor and friend!
