Mary Maneval
A poultry farmer in central Pennsylvania for over 50 years, Mary was born in 1916, and is my grandmother. I am honoring her because she served as a tremendous role model and mentor throughout my entire life, especially during my childhood. I have learned countless life lessons from her and now realize just how much she has helped to shape my personal values system. A pioneer, operating her own poultry business along side her husband's dairy farm, without knowing it or labeling it as such, many of my own feminist thinking stems from her matriarchal family position. 10/2003 |
