Helen Sue Isely

Helen Sue Isely was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas in 1917. She graduated from the University of Arkansas and taught high school science in Arkansas. She moved to Ames, Iowa in 1945 and lived here for the rest of her life. She published more than 800 poems in more than 200 literary periodicals and popular magazines. She was the author of a book of poetry, "The Moon is Red", which received the first place award from the Midland Booksellers in 1962. She was active in the Iowa Arthritis Foundation.

She had a son, Karl Isely, and a daughter, Deanna Isely Nilsson.
