Helen Kiepe Mahoney

Ute, IA

Brick Section B - Row 28

My donation to the Carrie Chapman Catt Hall is in honor of my mother, Helen Kiepe Mahoney. My mother taught me the magic of books and encouraged all five of us children to continue our education. This led us all to obtain college degrees, four of us from ISU.

When told by a physician in 1974 that she had six months to live, she told the doctor in no uncertain terms that he was wrong - - that she had too much to live for, too many things to see her children accomplish. She proved that physician wrong by almost seven years - - years spent being an active volunteer in her community through the school, church and library. And always she was there for us, her family.

She was a very special person - - she believed in me, encouraged me and loved me. In my eyes, my mother was a heroine. 3/31/94
