Noma Lureen (Rupprich) Jebe was born in La Porte City, Iowa on May 26 1910 to Charles Daniel Rupprich and Florence Augusta Frank. Mrs. Jebe graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a BA in Music Education in 1933, took graduate study at Penn State Univ., SS 1938 & 1939, attended Drake University in Organ Performance and Church Music, 1954-1959, and attended Iowa State University, 1958.
She and Emil H. Jebe were married on June 16, 1941.
Mrs. Jebe was a teacher of music in the public schools of Lowden, Buffalo Center and Grundy Center, Iowa from 1933-38; Music Supervisor, Collingdale Schools, PA, 1938-41. Intermittent student of the organ, 1943-46. Member of the Mendelsohn Chorus, Phila., 1939-41; Swedish Chorus, Chicago, 1944-45; Unruh Chorus, Oakland, CA., 1946; Oratorio Society, Raleigh, 1947-49. She was an organist with the Episcopal Church, Raleigh, 1948-49; organist at the Lutheran Church, Ames, IA 1955-58. She was a lecturer on the Classical Church Organ, Its acoustic and Architectural Setting; 16 lectures in Iowa, 1957-59 at various locations in Iowa, one lecture was broadcast; 8 lectures, 1961-1970 with sponsorship by universities or American Guild of Organists. During 1970-80 she was with the Womens Assn. of the Ann Arbor Symphony, Ann Arbor Symphony Board, Washtenaw Land Conservancy, and active Conservationist in Benton County, Iowa and active Environmentalist, Washtenaw County, MI.
Mrs. Jebe was Music Reporter for musical organizations, was a member and held several positions in the Womens Assn. of the Ann Arbor Symphony, was a member and board member of the Washtenaw Land Conservancy and lobbyist for the Environment and Soil Conservation.
Mrs. Jebe received several awards for conservation in Benton County. She belonged to the Federated Music Clubs, American Guild of Organists, the Soil Conservation Socity of America, the Washtenaw Land Conservancy and The Nature Conservancy. She was a life member of Kappa Phi and had belonged to the Lutheran Society for Worship.
She was Dean, Central Iowa Chapter, American Guild of Organists, 1959-1960, and was the originator and developer of the book exhibit for the Washtenaw land Conservancy, "We Care About Land" which was displayed in the area schools and at the Matthei Botanical Gardens of the University of Michigan. 7/1/96 |
