Denise is the heroine and foundation for more than one family.
Born on January 3rd, 1966 in Minnesota and raised in Superior,
WI. Denise excelled in both sports and academics at Superior
Senior High School. She graduated from the College of St Scholastica
with a degree in Physical Therapy and found employment in the
Des Moines area in 1990. While raising her two beautiful daughters
(Rylee, Raegen) who are a handful, Denise fully supported her
husband while he attained his degree from Iowa State. She is
also a foundation for the Groth family, supporting relatives
through trials and tribulations, sickness and health. Never
wavering when needed, Denise has also become a reliable strength
within the family she married into.
Denise's volunteer activities include numerous charitable events
for breast cancer awareness, and offering her time for Christian
women organizations over the years.
She set a standard for achievement and excellence in education
and athletics, which has had a tangible and lasting impact on
her entire extended family. She has upheld the standards and
spirit of her upbringing throughout her life and her career.
Strength immeasurable, moral center never in doubt, Denise
is the epitome of a heroine and deserves a rightful place on
the Catt Hall plaza
I am proud to honor my wife, Denise Rae Matthews, through this
Plaza of Heroines
