U.S. Latino/a Studies Program

¡Bienvenido!

The U.S. Latino/a Studies program (USLS) at Iowa State University is the only academic program of its kind offered at the three Regents’ universities. The USLS is devoted to the study of Mexican Americans, Puerto Rican Americans, Cuban Americans, Dominican Americans, and Central and South Americans living in the United States who trace their ancestry to the Spanish-speaking countries of Latin America. The USLS is cross-disciplinary, drawing from the scientific methods established in anthropology, sociology, political science, economics, history and other social science and professional fields. The USLS offers course work and an interdisciplinary major with an emphasis in U.S. Latino/a Studies.

The program provides students with useful information on Latino/as, the largest group of culturally and linguistically diverse people in the United States.
Students can benefit greatly by becoming more aware of the socio-economic, political, cultural, and other contributions Latino/as have made and continue to make to United States society.
Students can also make themselves more competitive in today's job market by acquiring knowledge about US Latino/as. Employers in virtually every profession are looking for employees who are familiar with the US Latino/a population and understand the unique cultural perspectives that Latino/as possess.

Come see what we have to offer!
