Ames Piano Quartet in concert Sunday

AMES, Iowa—The Ames Piano Quartet is in concert Sunday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Iowa State University’s Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall, in the Music Hall.

The quartet will perform an all-Russian program, including one piano quartet by Russian composer Paul Juon and two piano quintets, by Dimitri Shostakovich and Anton Arensky.

The Ames Piano Quartet is the resident chamber music ensemble of Iowa State University. Its members are William David, piano; Mahlon Darlington, violin; Jonathan Sturm, cello; and George Work, cello. All are members of the ISU Music Department faculty.

Performing with the quartet is Sarah Plum, assistant professor of violin at Drake University. Since winning the first prize in the International Stulberg Competition in 1984, Plum has appeared on stages in the United States and abroad as a soloist and chamber musician. Additionally, she has played in European orchestras both as a concertmaster and principal player. She is a graduate of the Juilliard School where she received a bachelor’s and master’s degree, and the State University of New York at Stony Brook where she received a D.M.A.
