GREEN TEAM
College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean Michael Whiteford is establishing a "Sustainability Committee," a group that will assist the college in promoting recycling and guiding the college and its faculty, staff and students in how we can alter our behaviors to conserve resources. FACULTY DEVELOPMENT SERIES
The second in a series of LAS workshops, "Preparing for a Successful Preliminary Review," will be held Thursday, October 16, from 3-5 p.m. in 302 Catt Hall.
TEACHING AWARDS
Gordon Miller, professor of chemistry, and Sonja Giles, assistant professor of music, were recognized at the recent College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Teaching Awards Dinner. The Cassling Family Faculty Awards recognize and reward outstanding faculty in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Two faculty members will each receive a $5000 award - one for outstanding teaching performance over an extended period of time at Iowa State and one for early achievement in teaching.

POLITICAL IMAGES
Two veteran photojournalists will be on the Iowa State University campus in mid-October showcasing and speaking about their political assignments. Susan Biddle, Washington Post photographer and a former White House staff photographer on assignment at President Reagan's ranch, will speak on "White House Images" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, in the South Ballroom of the Memorial Union. Then a few days later (Sunday, Oct. 19), Bill Eppridge, a photographer for such popular magazines as National Geographic, LIFE, People and Sports Illustrated, will speak on "A Time It Was: Bobby Kennedy and the 1968 Election" at 7 p.m. in the Sun Room of the Memorial Union.

MANAGING FINANCIAL CRISIS
Four economics alumni of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will hold a panel discussion on "Managing Financial Crisis" Thursday, October 23, at 6 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union. Participants will include James W. Paulsen, Chief Investment Strategist, Wells Capital Management; James A. Overdahl, Chief Economist, Securities and Exchange Commission; Robert F. Baur, Chief Global Economist, Principal Global Investors; and Ned P. Zachar, CFA, Portfolio Manager, KLS Diversified.
UNITED WAY
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will hold a drawing for incentives offered for the United Way of Story County campaign. Each LAS employee who contributes will be placed in a drawing for an autographed football by Cyclone Coach Gene Chizik, two pairs of free tickets to an ISU men's basketball game (except Kansas), two one-time passes to Reiman Gardens and one copy of Roy Reiman's new publication "Our Iowa." The drawing will be conducted by the United Way of Story County office.

ARTS
Both the ISU Wind Ensemble and the Iowa State Singers will be in concert this week in the Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall. The Wind Ensemble will perform Friday, October 17, at 7:30 p.m., while the Iowa State Singers will be on stage Sunday, October 19, at 3 p.m.
