SCHOLARHIPS
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS - Applications deadlines for scholarships
in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is approaching. The deadlines
vary by department but the LAS scholarship deadline is February 15. An on-line
application and additional information on all LAS scholarships is available
on the LAS web site.

STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIPS - LAS students who are planning to study
abroad in this summer or during the 2007 fall semester can apply for a LAS
study abroad scholarship. The deadline for summer programs is March 1 and
the fall program deadline is April 15.

CAREER SERVICES
CAREER WEEK - LAS Career Services is sponsoring LAS Career
Week 2007, "Find Your Path with Career Services." A series of workshops
will be held in three career paths - criminal justice, journalism and mass
communication, and Career Fair preparation. A complete schedule is on-line.

CAREER FAIR - The Colleges of Business and Liberal Arts and Sciences
will host their annual Spring Career Fair Wednesday, Jan. 31, from noon
to 6 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum. A listing of employers planning to participate,
Career Fair tips and information on Interview Day on Thursday, Feb. 1, are
available on-line.

STUDENT GROUPS
STARTING FROM SCRATCH - A new student organization, the
LAS Dean's Leadership Team, is being established in the College of Liberal
Arts and Sciences. The new group will, among other projects, help plan student
activities within the College including VEISHEA events and a week-long LAS
student celebration in the fall semester.

STUDENT FEATURES
A TIMES SQUARE NEW YEAR'S - After spending a summer in New York
City interning at media giant Viacom, senior communications studies major
Nickie Dix couldn't wait to return to the Big Apple. She got her wish and
a little more when she spent a few days between Christmas and New Year's
helping MTV put on its New Year's Eve television special in Times Square.

MOST PROMISING - The American Advertising Foundation has named
Joela Kemp, a senior advertising major, a "Most Promising Minority
Student" for 2007. She will be recognized for her accomplishments in
New York City in early February.

ARTS
James Bovinette, associate professor of music, will be joined by Iowa State
jazz students for "A Jazz Extravaganza: Music from the 1920s and 1930s"
Saturday, January 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the Ames City Hall Auditorium. The
concert will also feature John Benoit and the Ballyhoo Foxtrot Orchestra
with vocalist Kim Fitch. Tickets are $10 and are available from the Department
of Music.
