Alumni join LAS Dean's Advisory Council
Seven alumni of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences have been appointed
to the LAS Dean's Advisory Council.
The Council is comprised of 30 alumni and friends of the college. The group
meets twice a year on campus (fall and spring) to discuss issues pertinent to
the college.
The next meeting of the Council is Oct. 5-6.
Each new member was appointed to a three-year term and is eligible to serve
two consecutive terms.

The newly appointed LAS Dean's Advisory Council members include:
J.D. Beatty, West Des Moines. Beatty is a 1964 English graduate
and a former assistant dean in LAS. Beatty retired recently as the chief of
staff to the president of the University of Colorado System.
Thomas Bergmann, San Diego, Calif. The president and CEO of
Arventis, Inc., Bergmann is a 1977 anthropology graduate.
Gene Lange, Alexandria, Va. A 1969 modern language graduate,
Lange is an attorney and a partner in the law firm, Luman, Lange, Thomas &
McMullan.
C. Mark Palmer, Fulton, Mo. The CEO of NBA Woodhaven in Columbia,
Mo., Palmer is a 1985 sociology graduate.
Kelly Knudson Renner, Weston, Mass. Renner is a 1980 journalism
and mass communication graduate. She is a marketing consultant.
Thomas Smith, Houston, Tex. Smith holds both bachelor's and
master's degrees in geology (1968 and 1971). He is the president of Seismic
Micro-Technology in the Houston area.
Carol Elliott, a retired Air Force brigadier general, from
Montana, is the chair of the LAS Dean's Council. She graduated from Iowa State
in 1972 with a degree in international relations and political science
The chair-elect of the Council is Mark Fleming, a 1970 graduate
in physics from Naperville, Ill. He is the president of Strategies on Demand,
L.L.C.
