October 6, 2008Ames Piano Quartet in concert at Iowa State UniversityThe Ames Piano Quartet, the resident chamber music ensemble at Iowa State University, will present a free concert Sunday, Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall. The ensemble will present an evening of music that includes one of the early piano quartets of Felix Mendelssohn. The program will also include selections from the Quartet's 12th compact disc. The CD of works by Spanish composers will be released by Albany Recordings this fall. The Ames Piano Quartet is one of the most widely recorded piano quartets in America, featuring a discography that includes all the masterpieces as well as numerous important works by British, American, Russian and Czech composers. From Seattle to New York, Havana to Cape Town, and Paris to Taipei, audiences and critics have responded enthusiastically to the power and diversity of their performances. Members of the Ames Piano Quartet are Mahlon Darlington, violin, Jonathan Sturm, viola, George Work, cello, and William David, piano. |
