Catt Center's Bystrom attending Congressional conference on civic education

Dianne Bystrom, director of the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics at Iowa State University, is one of two Iowa delegates to the Third Annual Congressional Conference on Civic Education (CCCE) in Washington, D.C.

Bystrom will be attending the event Sept. 24-26 along with Paul McKinley, Iowa State Senator from the 36th District. Previous Iowa delegates to the CCCE have included Iowa Secretary of State Chet Culver and Nancy Boettger, Iowa State Senator for the 29th District.

The 2005 CCCE is the third of five planned annual conferences designed to focus public attention on the state of civic education in America. Each conference brings together key decision makers on education policy, leading educators, and representatives of professional and civic organizations from every state.

The event is hosted by the four leaders of the U.S. Congress and is sponsored by the Alliance for Representative Democracy, a national initiative designed to reinvigorate and educate Americans on the relationship between government and its citizens. The nonpartisan organization is funded by the U.S. Department of Education by act of Congress
