ASSOCIATE DEAN SEARCH
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is conducting a search for an associate dean in the college. This new position is a non-tenure track, 12-month, part-time appointment and the search is open to current LAS faculty only with a rank of full professor.
This position has special emphasis in overseeing student recruitment, online education, study abroad and faculty orientation and will serve as the LAS liaison for several college and university-wide committees.
Interested faculty should submit a letter of interest together with a curriculum vita to Dean Michael Whiteford in 202 Catt Hall. The search will remain open until an appointment is made.

EVALUATING TEACHING
The Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) will discuss how end-of-term course evaluations can help faculty assess how students are learning in a faculty forum, "Student Evaluation of Teaching" Tuesday, February 19, at 12:10 p.m. in the Memorial Union's Cardinal Room. The forum will look at how evaluations can serve as one measurement among many in evaluating an instructor's achievements in the classroom. Beverages and desserts will be provided.
LECTURE THIS WEEK
Madupe Labode, public scholar of African American history and museums at the Indiana University-Purdue University will speak on "The Lost History of the Civil Rights Movement" Monday, February 4, at 8 p.m. in the Sun Room of the Memorial Union. Labode was named a Rhodes Scholar in 1988, the fourth student and first woman from Iowa State to receive the honor. She graduated from Iowa State in 1988 with a BS in history and received her PhD from Oxford University.
CEAH SUMMER GRANT WRITING
The Center for Excellence in the Arts and Humanities will offer a pilot program this summer to assist faculty members in the arts and humanities with a written critique of the narrative and budget of an external grant proposal. Consultants will address a variety of questions including whether the proposal meets the grant guidelines and whether it is written clearly and persuasively for its intended audience.
The deadline for submission for the program is Monday, April 7, and interested faculty should e-mail basic information on the proposal to snorvell@iastate.edu.

SHARE
SHARE (Students Supporting Health and Relief Efforts) plans to volunteer with Hands On Gulf Coast, a disaster response project established as one of the most effective disaster response organizations in Biloxi, Miss. The group will participate in various activities such as construction, plumbing, beautification, working with children and feeding the homeless.
SHARE is looking for tax-exempt donations to the organization that will directly benefit and impact victims of Hurricane Katrina. Monetary support will help provide scholarships for students to participate in this service opportunity.

ARTS
A special Showcase Case Concert kicks off the ISU Honor Choir Festival Sunday, February 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall. Each of the four Iowa State vocal ensembles will perform including the Iowa State Singers.
