EVALUATING TEACHING
The Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) will discuss how end-of-term course evaluations can help faculty assess how students are learning in a faculty forum, "Student Evaluation of Teaching" Tuesday, February 19, at 12:10 p.m. in the Memorial Union's Cardinal Room. The forum will look at how evaluations can serve as one measurement among many in evaluating an instructor's achievements in the classroom. Beverages and desserts will be provided.

WILDNESS AND WILDERNESS
Lectures, music, panel discussions and readings highlight a three-day symposium at Iowa State that explores the creative imagination and the environment. "Earth/Animal/Oracle," the fourth Annual Symposium on Wildness, Wilderness and the Creative Imagination, February 17-19, campus and in Ames. The event is sponsored by the MFA program in creative writing and environment in the Department of English.

LAS HUMANITIES / SOCIAL SCIENCES GRANTS
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is accepting applications for its Humanities and Social Sciences Research Grants. The grants provide "seed money" to begin research or scholarship that is expected to continue developing and to attract funding from other sources. Completed applications are due in departmental offices on March 7 with applications due in the LAS Office on March 21.

LARGE CLASS MASTERS
This year's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Master Teacher class will hold a special forum to discuss "best practices for teaching large classes." The forum, which is co-sponsored by LAS and the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT), will be held Thursday, February 28, in the Campanile Room of the Memorial Union from 3:30-5 p.m.

NEH SUMMER STIPEND
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Center for Excellence in the Arts and Humanities will hold a luncheon to discuss the National Endowment for Humanities Summer Stipend. John Monroe, assistant professor of history, will be the guest speaker. Monroe has received a NEH Summer Stipend and has served on the NEH panel that reviews the applications. The free luncheon is Wednesday, March 5, at 11:45 a.m. in 302 Catt Hall. Please RSVP to Laura Engelson at lge@iastate.edu.
WOMEN'S STUDIES GRANTS
The Women's Studies Program is offering small grants to Women's Studies faculty and students for professional travel and research expenses. Proposals should be sent to Julie Snyder-Yuly at jlsnyder@iastate.edu by Friday, March 7.

ARTS
A pair of concerts are scheduled this week in the Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall. Faculty member Michael Giles will present a saxophone recital Monday, February 18, at 7:30 p.m., followed two days later by a Jazz Ensemble concert, also beginning at 7:30 p.m.
