    CATT CALENDARS
    The Catt Center for Women and Politics still has copies available of the 2008 "Women Impacting ISU" calendar. Copies can be picked up in the Catt Center office on the third floor of Catt Hall. Please call in advance (294-3181) and the Catt Center will have your calendars rolled up and ready to go.

    SUMMER CHINESE
    The Department of World Languages and Cultures will offer Intensive Summer Chinese courses in 2008. The courses are designed for students who have no previous experience learning or speaking Chinese. When combined with coursework during the regular academic year, Iowa State’s Summer Intensive Chinese courses provide a unique opportunity to accelerate the study of Chinese by enabling students to reach the proficiency level normally attained through two years of regular study in just 11 months.

    Chinese 101 will be offered May 19 to June 13 followed by Chinese 102 from June 16 to July 11. Space is limited to 15 students per section. For more information contact Lijun Shi (estone@iastate.edu) or 294-9973.

    BEST PRACTICES
    The third in a series of four faculty development workshops will be held Wednesday, March 12, from 3-5 p.m. in The Gallery of the Memorial Union. "Promotion and Tenure: Expectations and Best Practices" will cover such topics as portfolio preparation, "dos and don’ts" along the way, LAS P&T policy, and scholarly expectations.
            
    Faculty should RSVP by Friday, March 7, to lge@iastate.edu or 4-6426. Pre-tenure faculty can invite their faculty member to the event.

    LAS HUMANITIES / SOCIAL SCIENCES GRANTS
    The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is accepting applications for its Humanities and Social Sciences Research Grants. The grants provide "seed money" to begin research or scholarship that is expected to continue developing and to attract funding from other sources. Completed applications are due in departmental offices on March 7 with applications due in the LAS Office on March 21.

    NEH SUMMER STIPEND
    The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Center for Excellence in the Arts and Humanities will hold a luncheon to discuss the National Endowment for Humanities Summer Stipend. John Monroe, assistant professor of history, will be the guest speaker. Monroe has received a NEH Summer Stipend and has served on the NEH panel that reviews the applications. The free luncheon is Wednesday, March 5, at 11:45 a.m. in 302 Catt Hall. Please RSVP to Laura Engelson at lge@iastate.edu.

    WOMEN'S STUDIES GRANTS
    The Women's Studies Program is offering small grants to Women's Studies faculty and students for professional travel and research expenses. Proposals should be sent to Julie Snyder-Yuly at jlsnyder@iastate.edu by Friday, March 7.

    ARTS
    ISU Theatre will present the premiere of a new Jane Cox play this month. "Love and Honor," a story of Iowans in the Civil War, will be performed March 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, in Fisher Theater.
