Department of Geological and Atmospheric Sciences hosts Wyoming reunion
Iowa State University's Department of Geological and Atmospheric Sciences
will host a reunion of its graduates who attended the department's summer field
camp during their undergraduate years on campus.
The reunion will take place July 7-9 at the Carl F. Vondra Geological Field
Station in Shell, Wyoming. The department has operated the field camp at that
location for over 50 years.
Besides the normal reunion activities, the event will include fossil collecting
in the Ordovician Bighorn Dolomite and geological excursions to the Coyote Basin
and the Red Gulch Dinosaur Tracksite.
This is the second reunion that the department has staged at the Wyoming field
station. The 2002 reunion attracted more than 150 participants including alumni,
faculty, staff, family and friends.
"The 2002 field camp reunion was such a success, we decided to do it again,"
said Carl Jacobson, professor and chair of the Department of Geological and
Atmospheric Sciences. "We have planned field trips, barbecues, special
lectures, and of course, time to relax with friends."
Additional information on the reunion is available on-line at www.ge-at.iastate.edu/fieldcampreunion07.shtml.
