Kathy Hickok named interim director of Women's Studies Program

Kathleen Hickok, professor of English and women's studies at Iowa State
University, has been named interim director of the Women's Studies Program
in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS).
Hickok will serve as interim director of the program during the fall semester.
An internal search will be conducted during the fall to name a permanent
replacement for Jill Bystydzienski who has accepted a faculty position
at Ohio State University.
The Women's Studies Program offers an undergraduate major and minor and
a graduate minor in women's studies. The program was established in 1977
and has over 60 affiliated faculty members.
Hickok's research interests include women writers and women's literature,
19th century British literature and culture, multicultural American women's
literature and feminist studies. She is the author of the book, "Representations
of Women: Nineteenth-Century British Women's Poetry," published by
Greenwood Press in 1984.
A faculty member in Iowa State's Department of English since 1979, Hickok
has frequently been recognized for her outstanding classroom instruction.
She received a LAS Award for Outstanding Teaching in 1995 and was named
an Outstanding Faculty Member in 2002 and 2003 by the ISU Greek Council.
In 2003, she received a PHORUM Faculty Award for outstanding commitment
to doctoral students.
She was named the Jerry Shakeshaft Master Teacher in Humanities and Social
Sciences for the 2005-06 academic year by the College of Liberal Arts
and Sciences.
Prior to joining the Iowa State faculty, she was an assistant professor
of English at Stetson University in Florida.
