Cyclone Honor Band Festival Concerts are Feb. 6, 7

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State University Department of Music is pleased to present the 33rd annual ISU Cyclone Honor Band Festival Concerts, Friday, Feb. 6 at 4:30 p.m. in the Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall and Saturday, Feb. 7 at 3 p.m. in Stephens Auditorium.

Saturday's concert will feature two premier high school honor bands: the Gold Band, conducted by Joseph Hermann, Director of Bands at Tennessee Tech University; and the Cardinal Band, conducted by Thad Driskell, Director of Bands at Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School. These ensembles are comprised of the best high school musicians in the state: members from the Iowa All-State band and orchestra, outstanding student musicians, young men and women who show promise of reaching a high level of performing, or show strong leadership and character. The students represent nearly 70 Iowa high schools and were chosen from over 400 applications.

Friday afternoon’s concert will feature the ISU Wind Ensemble, under the direction of ISU Director of Bands Michael Golemo. Among other works, they will be performing Vincent Persichetti’s “Psalm for Band” and Joseph Spaniola’s “Escapade.” Joseph Hermann will serve as guest conductor, and Lance LaDuke, a member of the Boston Brass, will be featured with the Wind Ensemble, performing Philip Sparke’s “Pantomime.”

Friday's concert featuring the ISU Wind Ensemble is free and open to the public.  General admission tickets for the Saturday Honor Bands concert are $6 for adults and $4 for seniors and students. Tickets are available at the Iowa State Center Ticket Office and all TicketMaster locations. For more information regarding either concert please call the Music Department at 515-294-2810.
