LAS honors students display projects
Annual poster presentation held April 20.
Two seniors in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences have been honored
for their Honors posters by the LAS Honors Committee.
The two were among 43 LAS students who displayed their research projects
on Wednesday, April 20, in the Memorial Union. The LAS Honors Committee
annually judges the posters and selects two outstanding projects.
This year's recipients are Nicole Scott, a senior biology major, and Daniel
Zelik, a senior psychology and industrial engineering major.
Scott's project was "Telomere Length and Body Length in Alligator mississippiensis."
Her project faculty advisor was Carol Vleck.
Zelik's winning poster was "Improving Stowage and Inventory Management
in Manned Spaceflight." His project faculty advisor was Douglas Gemmill.
A third LAS student was one of three individuals honored by the University
Honors Program with the W. Robert Parks Honors Commendations, which are
awarded to a faculty member, a friend and a student associated with the
program.
Anna Marcinow, a senior biochemistry major, was recognized in part for her
contributions to the program including serving as Freshman Honors Program
Leader, undergraduate assistant and two years as the treasurer of the Honors
Student Board.
"Anna's commitment to the Honors Program and the enjoyment she has
gained from being part of it impressed me so much that I became a member
too," her nominator wrote. "She would be the first to acknowledge
how much the Honors Program has meant to her during the past three years,
but I contend that she has meant even more to the Honors Program."
