Latin American Film Festival at Iowa State this fall
Four films from four different countries will be shown during Iowa State University's
new Latin American Film Festival.
The films are all subtitled in English and will be shown in 1115 Pearson Hall
at 7 p.m. Admission is free and the films are open to the public.
The film festival will open Thursday, Sept. 22, with a 1995 Cuban satire "Guantanamera."
The movie follows members of a funeral procession and some truck drivers who
have to take the same route. The two diverse groups begin to talk about God
and the world and end up in discovering that life for both group has many similarities
as well as a lot of differences.
Other films in the Latin American Film Festival include:
- Sept. 29 - "Maria Ilena eres de gracia" (2004, Colombia)
- Oct. 6 - "La ley de Herodes" (1999, Mexico)
- Oct. 13 - "Orfeu" (1999, Brazil)
The series is sponsored by the Latin American Studies Program in the College
of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
